Development of inclusive aviation

International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) annual meeting was dedicated to strategic matters and main sector challenges at international level, including objectives of sustainability, safety and security, integration of unmanned aircraft systems (UAS), accessibility, inclusion and innovations in aviation.

Two-day meeting of directors general for civil aviation was also a significant opportunity for the Civil Aviation Agency director, Ivan Šćekić, to exchange opinions with colleagues from numerous countries and aviation organisations, gathered at ICAO EUR/NAT regional office.

One of messages of the Italian aviation authority (ENAC), that hosted the annual ICAO EUR/NAT meeting on 9 and 10 June 2026 in Puglia, is that development of inclusive aviation following global growth, with the highest safety and security standards, as well as commitment to passenger rights, is of significance.

Among numerous presentations, meeting participants were also addressed by the ICAO Secretary General, Juan Carlos Salazar. He stated the importance of growth in air transport and connections through investments in infrastructure, human resources and partnerships, as well as strengthening regulatory and institutional frameworks.

The meeting participants, including the CAA director with his associates, had also an opportunity to visit the ENAV Remote Digital Tower and Brindisi Area Control Centre (ACC). On 11 June, ENAC led Innovations Day tour of a Leonardo production facility, which is a global leader in aviation, defence, and security.
