Participation of Montenegro in the Assembly of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) in Montreal carries multiple benefits for the country, the key one being the continued compliance with the highest international standards in air transport. ICAO adopts standards and recommendations that form the foundation of safe, secure, efficient, and environmentally sustainable air transport.
By being present, Montenegro’s delegation also demonstrates its commitment to ensuring that the country’s regulations and practices are fully harmonized with international ones. For Montenegro, as well as for other Member States, this opens the door to strengthening its position in global aviation, as direct contacts with other countries and organizations contribute to greater recognition and credibility of our civil aviation system.
An active role in ICAO processes provides access to training programs, projects and initiatives that strengthen the professional capacities of institutions. The ICAO Assembly, where key decisions are made that shape the future of international air transport, also provides an opportunity for bilateral meetings with numerous countries and international partners, as well as an exchange of views on challenges.
The trip of the Montenegrin delegation to Canada, which includes the Minister of Transport Maja Vukićević, with associates, and the Director of the Agency Ivan Šćekić, with associates, is not financed from the State budget.
Minister Vukićević said that Montenegro remains committed to modernization and compliance with international standards: “This is an opportunity to exchange experiences, as well as to discuss possibilities to improve infrastructure, strengthen professional capacities and, ultimately, contribute to the development of the Montenegrin economy.”
Šćekić emphasized that active participation in the 42nd ICAO Assembly confirms the commitment to high standards of safety and security in air transport, as well as the goal of constantly improving this area: "It is also important to strengthen the reputation of a reliable partner in international aviation," the Director of the Agency pointed out.
The ICAO Assembly, which is held every three years, brings together representatives of 193 Member States, including Montenegro, and these days elects members of the Council. Among many issues on the agenda, there are topics of importance for the development of aviation - safety and security, air traffic management, innovations and new technologies, environmental protection, market liberalization, development plans and reports.
